This class performs on the main stage of Festival Place in the year end student showcase.

Increased musical awareness, ability to identify wind instruments, increased knowledge of musical styles, hands on musical experience, identify basic note values, rhythmic exploration, dynamics, time signatures such as 4/4 ,3/4 and 5/4, tempo, introduction to music notation, expand auditory skills, learn how to follow a conductor, learn how to tune and care for one's own instrument, aim to play in tune with others, read sheet music, and sight read simple rhythms.

Students of the wind ensemebles and percussion classes will have the opportunity to perform in the year end showcase concert on March 30/25 at Festival Place. Musical selections will focus on famous themes such as Batman, Spiderman, Pink Panther, Mission Impossible and more! Your student will not want to miss this exciting year.
Music is more fun when it is with friends! Learn how to play a wind instrument within an ensemble setting. This class gives an introduction to music and rhythms though a practical hands on method. Over the course of term 1 students will be introduced to concert band style tuning, playing together as an ensemble, learn to follow a conductor, read and play quarter notes, half notes and whole notes on at least 5 pitches on their instrument. Term 2 elaborates on the skills of term 1 with a focus on preparing two concert pieces for the year end performance. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2). Depending on class sizes, this class may or may not be placed with percussion students.
Students are required to provide their own instrument for classes and to practice on for the duration of the 2024/25 season (22 weeks, term 1 and 2). Instrument options for the wind ensemble include woodwinds such as flute, clarinet, saxophone or brass instruments such as trumpet, trombone, baritone and tuba. Wind Ensemble level 2 builds upon the skills of Wind Ensemble level 1. This class gives an introduction to music and rhythms though a practical hands on method. Over the course of term 1 students will be introduced to concert band style tuning, playing together as an ensemble, learn to follow a conductor, read and play eighth notes and possibly sixteenth notes on at least 10 pitches on their instrument. Term 2 elaborates on the skills of term 1 with a focus on preparing two or more concert pieces for the year end performance. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2). Students are required to provide their own instrument for classes and to practice on for the duration of the 2024/25 season (22 weeks, term 1 and 2). The Percussion Ensemble 2 joins with the Wind Ensemble 2, to create a band class experience! Intended for ages 12+ with previous instrument experience OR having completed Wind Ensemble 1 OR the Junior Band Winds program.
Percussion Ensemble 2 aims at giving students the opportunity to learn a variety of rhythms and songs in a group setting. Musical selections are chosen and arranged by drawing inspiration from rhythms from around the world based on the theme for the student year end showcase performance. Popular music and movie scores may also be used in class and to compose performance pieces. Music will be selected by Azure Ensembles based on the size, age range and musical advancement of the participants the class. Percussion ensembles will perform showcase pieces with the wind ensemble classes. The Percussion Ensemble 2 joins with the Wind Ensemble 2, to create a band class experience.
Percussion Ensemble students will be required to pay a $125 instrument rental fee due in October. This allows students the opportunity to take instruments home to practice with. Instruments are assigned by Azure Music. Intended for students aged 12+

Students are to bring their instrument, a music stand, a pencil and water to class. Azure Music Ensembles will provide a music folder and all required music.
Please arrive 15 minutes before class time to prepare instrument and be ready to set up when the class begins. Students are NOT permitted to play their instrument in the hallway before or after class.
