The Junior Winds is great for beginner students aged 9-11 who are interested in playing a wind instrument (clarinet, flute, trumpet etc) and percussion students aged 8-11.

Students of the junior band class will gain increased musical awareness, learn to play their instrument, create sounds and pitches, increase knowledge of musical styles, identify basic note values, rhythmic exploration, dynamics, time signatures such as 4/4 and 3/4, tempo, introduction to music notation, expand auditory skills, learn how to follow a conductor, read sheet music, and sight read simple rhythms.

Students of the junior band class will have the opportunity to perform in the year end showcase concert on March 30/25 at Festival Place. Musical selections will focus on famous themes such as Batman, Spiderman, Pink Panther, Mission Impossible and more! Your student will not want to miss this exciting year.

Learn how to play a wind instrument within an ensemble setting. The Junior winds is intended for beginner wind students aged 9-11 who are new to their instrument. Families must discuss instrument choice with with Vanessa Diehl, Azure Music Director/Instructor. This class gives an introduction to music and rhythms though a practical hands on method. Over the course of term 1 students will be introduced to concert band style tuning, playing together as an ensemble, learn to follow a conductor, read and play quarter notes, half notes and whole notes on at least 5 pitches on their instrument. Students will learn how to tune thier own instrument and aim to play in tune with others. Term 2 elaborates on the skills of term 1 with a focus on preparing two concert pieces for the year end performance. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2) and will play in the year end showcase On March 30/25 at Festival Place.
Wind Instruments: students are required to provide their own instrument for classes and to practice on for the duration of the 2024/25 season (22 weeks, term 1 and 2). Instrument options are flute or clarinet but additional wind instruments may be accepted with prior discussion with director/instructor Vanessa Diehl. Learn how to play percussion instruments within an ensemble setting. This class is in combination with the Junior Winds class to create a Junior Band Class. Students will gain an introduction to music and rhythms though a practical hands on method. Over the course of term 1 students will be introduced to percussion instruments, techniques, playing together as an ensemble, learn to follow a conductor, read and play eighth notes, quarter notes, half notes and whole notes . Term 2 elaborates on the skills of term 1 with a focus on preparing two concert pieces for the year end performance. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2). Intended for percussionists aged 8-11. This class is structured with the intention that students will participate in the full year program both (term 1 and 2) and will play in the year end showcase On March 30/25 at Festival Place.
Percussion Instruments: students will have the opportunity to play several drum and percussion instruments throughout the season. A rental fee of $125 is due by Oct 15/24. This will allow percussion students access to instruments and they will take home an instrument each week to practice with.
Students are to bring their instrument, a music stand, a pencil and water to class. Azure Music Ensembles will provide a music folder and all required music.
Please arrive 15 minutes before class time to prepare instrument and be ready to set up when the class begins. Students are NOT permitted to play their instrument in the hallway before or after class.
